Conclusion
During World War II, America produced some of the most successful propaganda campaigns in history. The pushes for increased production, labor, and conservation may well have won the war for America. (ThinkQuest). Propaganda was a way to unite America and to have everyone participate even if they were not actually fighting in the war. Posters urging citizens to conserve resources, increase labor production to “help our troops,” or simply slogans summoning an increase national pride were posted in every subway station, train station, bus stop, on every billboard and street corner in every city. Ads to buy war bonds or join the armed forces were printed in nearly every magazine and newspaper. So even if one covered one’s ears to the messages broadcast over the airwaves, one couldn’t escape the constant bombardment of visual stimuli. (Navarro). Propaganda was a motivating force that kept the battles intense and kept the nations united for a common cause. The propaganda that involved racism was not only found in the United States but was used by every country. They used racial remarks and depictions to create stereotypes of one another to increase hatred in their countries against the enemies. Do we still use propaganda in our war efforts today?Propaganda is not as prominent and popular as it was during World War II but it is still used to fight many of the battles our country is still fighting today. The propaganda that we see today in the United States are often commercials that are trying to recruit men and women to join the armed forces and support our country. If you look in the newspaper you can often times find a editorial cartoon that talks about politics or about the war we are involved with. However, we do not see posters about war bonds and loose lips hanging around for people to look at. Propaganda has come a long way in changing the way we support our nation in a time of crisis. Propaganda during World War II was used in posters, film, radio, and entertainment. Propaganda was used to persuade Americans to support the war and to support the home front during the war. Propaganda aroused the emotions of the people and they did everything they could to support their country while the war was being fought. (Navarro)
